Project Case| FILMBASE Transforms the Digital Showroom of a Class A Building
When architecture ceases to be merely a functional container and instead becomes a medium capable of interaction, transformation, and information transmission, modern urban office spaces take on a whole new form of expression. In Building C of the CGN Tower in Shenzhen Longgang, an innovative experiential space has been renovated and revitalized. By integrating liquid crystal films and transparent display films into the building’s structure, the renovation achieves a seamless fusion of natural lighting, privacy protection, and digital displays, creating a model of urban office design that combines aesthetic appeal with technological innovation.
This renovation utilized FILMBASE PDLC Smart film, covering an area of 31 square meters. Leveraging the material’s inherent optical properties, the space partitions can switch between transparent and frosted modes with the touch of a button. In the transparent state, natural outdoor light flows unobstructed into the interior, offering an unobstructed view and allowing occupants to fully enjoy the urban landscape outside the building; When switched to the frosted mode, a soft, matte screening effect is instantly created, rapidly ensuring spatial privacy without the need for additional curtains or partitions—a clean, minimalist design suitable for diverse usage scenarios.

A 21-square-meter area on the inner side of the facade features a transparent, naked-eye 3D Media Film, eliminating the bulky enclosures of traditional displays and making the screen virtually invisible within the curtain wall. When activated, flowing digital imagery unfolds along the building’s contours, adding dynamic visuals to the exhibition hall’s promotional displays; when deactivated, the surface returns to its transparent state, preserving the building’s original facade design and ensuring that the technological installation coexists harmoniously with the structure itself.

The indoor atrium serves as the visual focal point of the entire exhibition hall, with two large-format Hanging Media Film suspended from the high ceiling. When activated, high-definition images appear to float within the space, where real and virtual elements intertwine with light and shadow, breaking free from the constraints of traditional large-screen displays and enabling bidirectional visual output between the interior and exterior.

Digital upgrades of traditional exhibition halls often face a dilemma: large-screen equipment tends to block natural light, while curtains and blinds sacrifice the space’s sense of openness. The FILMBASE smart film solution upgrades the exhibition hall’s digital capabilities in a lightweight manner without requiring major alterations to the building’s original structure.
The entire renovation avoids cluttered, ornate decorations, focusing instead on innovation through new materials to seamlessly integrate technology into the space rather than treating it as a jarring afterthought. The evolution of exhibition halls in Grade A office buildings has long gone beyond simple renovations; it represents a reconstruction of exhibition logic and spatial experience. This project also provides a practical, actionable reference for the digital transformation of corporate exhibition halls in office buildings, urban exhibition spaces, and commercial complexes.
